Board Camp VFD serves over 450 families and near 130 square miles of wilderness and farmlands..
Founded in 1978 by concerned citizens who organized to meet the need for emergency services in the area, Board Camp VFD started with one small brush truck and now employs 6 firefighting apparatus. Let us be reminded that our volunteers are dedicated to their community and contribute countless hours in training and maintenance work caring for equipment to ensure a prompt response time.
From the Fire Chief:
After God created the heaven and earth, He looked down and saw that the people He created were getting themselves hurt. So He sent down guardian angels to protect them. One day the angels came back to the Lord and said, "We need some help. Regardless of what we do, the people are still getting hurt." When the angels left, the Lord went to work on the specs for His new guardian angels. He said, "I will create an angel that can live on half-eaten meals and can get up in the middle of the night and leave loved ones behind to run into a burning building to save others." The Lord said, "This new guardian angel will be strong enough to pull apart a wrecked car, but still gentle enough to lift an injured child from that car." The Lord knew that this new guardian angel must have a heart made of the purest gold. His eyes must be able to show love and compassion and not the look of fear that he will feel inside. This new guardian angel must have a reassuring tone that can comfort a bleeding victim but still have a voice that is strong enough to yell, "STAY BACK." Sometime later the angels came back to the Lord and said, "Lord, this new guardian angel is your greatest creation of all." The Lord said," I did not create them, they created each other. All I do is comfort them." And because they were forged in the flames of humanity, God called them....... Fire Fighters.
